So far I'm very pleased with it. I use this laptop mainly for everything a college kid does, as well as development software like Netbeans, Adobe, Eclipse, AutoCAD, etc. I'm also a casual gamer. Pros: This thing is a beast, incredible performance and speed. I can have something Dreamweaver and Eclipse open at the same time, while watching a video or gaming and you barely notice a difference. the 2nd generation Intel Core i7 2670QM, aka Sandy Bridge, has a great benchmark. It can overclock to over 3.0 Ghz via Turbo Boost when needed. It has a lot of RAM, 6GB is more than enough, and you probably will never use all of it. For the average person, 4GB is more than sufficient. Starcraft II ran just fine on it, even without discrete Graphics Memory. Of course, for the hardcore gamers, it will be best to get a model with NVIDIA Geforce. 750GB is a ton, even more than my external hard drive. Many people don't understand that... I needed to get a faster, more reliable computer and this one absolutely FLIES CIRCLES around my older model! I tell everyone that an i7 quadcore processor is no joke! On my old computer, it would rip a movie at about 20fps. This one? An AMAZING 155fps! Just unbelieveable! The 8gb of DDR3 ram is no joke either! And with the new usb 3.0 I can load a 2TB portable drive in a matter of about 10 minutes! This computer is so FAST it's IRRITATING! Let me explain. On my older model, I'd click on a program and it would take about 20seconds to load. This one? I can load several programs in a few seconds! One thing that's a bit strange. It was crunch time for school and airs and porteges were sold out. Pros : -quick cpu, good graphics -insane battery life, at LEAST 8 hours, usually more. i can stream netflix for 7-8 straight hours while surfing at the same time. with wifi off it comes in just under 13 hours. -synpatic trackpad (same brand as macbook), buttons are really nice too. -keyboard has a nice feel, bit of flex but i have no idea how or why thats bad (dont most notebooks have that?) -excellent sound quality and loud speakers -usb 3.0 -very thin Cons : -build quality is lower than expected. it does have an aluminum lid but thats it, the rest is flexible plastic. for a $600 laptop this should have been expected. overall, im surprisingly pleased. this is my first of what will be many acer products. i plan on getting 4gb more ram and an intel SSD and still come in well under $1k. Buying from amazon it is $479.(under more buying choices) I would recommend getting this over the 14 inch version which costs $700, unless you really want a free xbox; the only difference is .7 inches in screen space and a CD drive you will never use anyway. The second generation i3 has built in graphics and is all you really need for most daily tasks and light gaming. It feels fast, boots up in just under a minute. The speakers have noticeably louder and richer sound than my last HP laptop which was branded with altec lansing. Battery life is also amazing, can get 6 to 7 hours streaming shows on wifi. The silver and blue color scheme is fairy stylish and with an aluminum lid it feels well made. The screen tends to reflect glare and could have better viewing angles; but basically every consumer laptop these days has a high gloss screen, it really doesn't bother me. I tried to play "the killing floor" off steam because it's a first person shooter with an older engine but has hordes of enemies to test how much this laptop can handle. It played the game at highest settings flawlessly which is perfect for what I paid for. You're not going to be playing any of the recent call of duty's, but it will get you some decent performance on older games. For this laptop, I didn't want much power. I needed something for browsing and such, and I needed something light with good battery life. This works great for that purpose. It is less than 5 pounds (nowhere as light as ultrabooks, but they cost twice as much), and the battery lasts a really long time (6-8 hours easily). It comes with all the usual ports, and one USB3 port. One of the USB ports (the USB3 port actually) can also charge other devices (such as your phone or ipod) even when the laptop is switched off. That is a great feature that I like (there is a flip side of that though - if you have a mouse connected there it will unnecessarily drain the battery power even when the laptop is switched off). The unit is pretty slick, the keyboard is nice, sound is good, if not very loud. The only drawback on this unit is the screen. The screen can only be rated average at best. For now, it has performed quite exceptionally! I set it up at around 2pm and once it was fully charged, unplugged the charger. It has now been about 5 hours (without the cord plugged in) and it still has about 35% remaining. Compared to dad's old laptop, this is good! He specifically asked for a long battery life feature and I definitely found him one. Everything has been working fine but have not used the computer long enough for me to find out if something is wrong.
